Frequently Asked Question

  • How do I configure more than one Agent on a given Computer?
    • To run more than one Agent on a given Computer simply copy and rename the Agent.ini and Agent.bat files. Edit the .ini file to set the Port setting to be a unique TCP/IP Port number. Edit the .bat file to reference the new .ini file. When you define the Agents in Pocket Conn, you specify the TCP/IP Address as well as the different Ports and each Agent Definition will be given a unique name.
  • Can new Connectors be added to an Agent?
  • Can new Directives be added to a Connector?
  • How can I run my Agent with Administrative Privileges?
    • If you are running the Agent in its own window, right-click on the Agent.bat file from the Windows Explorer and select 'Run as administrator'. If you are running the Agent as a Scheduled Task.
  • How can I run my Agent in the background?
    • Yes, an Agent can be run as a Scheduled Task that starts up automatically when the Computer starts up.
  • Can an Agent run as a Windows Service?
    • No, but an Agent can be run in the background as a Scheduled Task that starts up automatically when the Computer starts up.
  • How do I know what Agent Pocket Conn is connected to?
    • You always see the Name of the Agent to which Pocket Conn is connected by looking at the top of the Mobile Devices screen. It should say 'Pocket Conn - ' followed by the name of the Agent.
  • What determines the Order of the Services listed in Pocket Conn?
    • The Services are first broken up into sections by the Connectors that are enabled - Database, File then Operating System. Within each section, the Services are ordered alphabetically by the Script files name, not by the Service name. This allows you to group Services together by manipulating the Script file name. Edit Script (if enabled) always appears at the end of each section.
  • Some Pages take a long time to load - why?
    • Pages with a large amount of data, or a large number of individual cells can take some time to load. Some Services can also take a long time to be processed by the Agent. The Processing icon will spin in the middle of the bottom of the page while Pocket Conn is communicating with the Agent. Once the Processing icon stops spinning, it may take several seconds more of a large page of data to be displayed. If you find it is taking too long, try changing the Autopage settings
  • How do I define a KPI?
    • KPI's are easy to define - see the Help file.
  • How do I define a default Graph?
    • Graphs are easily defined by setting three Directives in the Script: --]GraphType, --]GraphX, and --]GraphY (use ::] instead of --] for Operating System Connector Scripts).  See the Help file.
  • How do I change the Style of my Report?
    • Change the --]Style (or ::]Style) Directive in the Script. See the Pocket Conn Help Styles section.
  • Can a Pocket Conn User be Prompted a parameter value?
    • Yes - Simply add a Question mark to the end of the --]Param (::]Param), or --]DrillParm (::]DrillParm) value. See the Pocket Conn Help Understanding Parameters section.
  • Why aren't Param and ParamValue script changes taken into account dynaically?
    • You need to u need to tap the Refresh  before the changes take effect because Pocket Conn will not communicate with the Agent before prompting. Will Drill Parameters, Pocket Conn communicates with the Agent before prompting and therefore will automatically update any Drill Parameter changes
  • Can one Connector drill into another Connector?
    • Yes - For example a canned report made available through the File Connector can drill into a service provided by the Database Connector.  It is as easy as specifying the Drill Connector.  For more information, see the Connector Directives section of the Help.
  • Is it possible to change the output format?
    • Yes - Pocket Conn supports 5 different background and font color combinations in both normal and bold type for a total of 10 different styles.  For more information, see the Connector Directives section of the Help.  You can also change the default styles for Pocket Conn itself.  For more information, see the Agent Initialization section of the Help.
  • Is it possible to Edit a Script from the Pocket Conn App?
    • Yes - Provided you have privileges, scripts can be written, tested and saved from Pocket Conn.
  • The 'Edit Script' option is not available on my Home page - why?
    • Either the edit capability has not been enabled for the Connector in the Agent .ini file (see Agent Configuration Setting in the Help) or you do not have write access to the folder in which the Scripts are stored.
  • Can Pocket Conn execute a command with more privileges than my credentials allow?
    • Yes - Provided to have privileges to read the script file, the script itself is executed with the privileges of the account under which the Pocket Conn Agent is running.
  • Can Pocket Conn work without connecting to an Agent?
    • No - A Pocket Conn Agent must be up and running and a Pocket Conn user must successfully log on to the agent to see the Home menu.
  • Does Pocket Conn work on an iPhone
    • Not yet - That is on the top of the list.
  • Can Pocket Conn work when I am at the Office?
